They travelled through the forbidden mountains of Tibet without raising the ire of the Chinese overlords, to visit some of the world’s most holy places. These include Mount Kailash, considered by Buddhists to be the navel of the earth, the closest a mortal can get to nirvana. Mount Kailash, bearing the sacred Buddhist symbol, the reverse swastica on its face. It is also the headwaters of the Ganges, the Sutledge, the Brahmaputra and the Indus rivers.
